Where do we go from here?StructureYou have already created a web page. Great! Now you're ready to add another page, and you want your visitors to be able to reach that page easily. Hmmm - how about another link? Okay, good. Wait a minute, we need some kind of structure to keep this thing organized, don't we? The structure of your web site is a description of what page is linked to what other pages within the site. To see the structure of a simple web site, we will go to a page named "Structure." After we examine the "Structure" page, we'll return to this page. There is a link named "Structure" in the column at the left edge of this page. There is also a hyperlink in this sentence to the "Structure" page. (To put the text hyperlink in, we selected the word Structure, clicked Insert on the menu bar and Hyperlink from the drop-down menu. In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, we clicked the structure.htm page in the list of pages, which filled in the correct URL, then we clicked OK). OrganizingAs your web site grows, you will add many new pages to it. Each new page is a new file in the folder containing your web site. Because you have an organized mind, you are probably already asking yourself "What happens when I have LOTS of pages in this thing? How will I ever keep it straight?". That is a really good question. You are right. Without some more organization, the many files will get very difficult to manage. The answer is: You build a filing system for your web site. You put all your images in a folder for images. You put all the pages about one particular subject in a folder for that subject. Just as you would for your other files. Wow - this makes too much sense! To look at the file folder organization of a web site, we will go to the page named "Organizing". After we examine the "Organizing" page we'll return to this page. There is a link named "Organizing" in the column at the left edge of this page. There is also a hyperlink in this sentence to the "Organizing" page. DesignYou began your web site creation with a single page. You added a background image. You inserted text and pictures. You created additional pages and added individual links from one page to another. Now it is time to consider using some of the work-saving tools that come with Microsoft FrontPage. To look at design considerations, we will move to the page "Design." There is a link named "Design" in the column at the left edge of this page. There is also a hyperlink in this sentence to the "Design" page. Structure | Organizing | Rspace | Design | Content | Illustration | Tables | Themes |
